"VR training and How the IoMT, technology advances and AI will affect future of HTM technicians"

Dr. Jeffrey Smoot is a NAVY veteran; he has been involved in the healthcare industry for over twenty years. With extensive experience in Biomedical Technology, PACS/Cardiology PACS, Healthcare IT, Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, VR/AR in healthcare, he brings a plethora of knowledge to the industry. Dr. Smoot has performed extensive research in the area Touchless/Gestural Interfaces to reduce Nosocomial Infections in healthcare. His current research is in the area of implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the healthcare space and how it can improve outcomes. Dr. Smoot has not only worked, as a Sr. Biomedical Technician but also as a Sr. Business Analyst, Adjunct Professor in Healthcare Informatics, Sr. Technical Trainer for Medtronic. In 2020, Dr. Smoot was a recipient of Project of the year at Medtronic for training during COVID-19. He has been the keynote speaker at the Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society conference and HIMSS-Bluegrass Chapter, AI in Medicine Global Summit May 2023. Dr. Smoot is currently the founder and CEO of Interactive Healthcare Designs and Professor of Biomedical Technology at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California. His education includes a doctorate in Computer Science from Colorado Technical University, MBA Healthcare/Project Management, Bachelors in Information Technology, Associates in Biomedical Electronics Technology and Associates in Electronics Technology. He has completed an Executive Certificate from MIT Sloan School of Management in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. He is also a story boarder for NVRT Labs.​

George Hampton

"Technology Assessment- Navigating the waters of reduced capital funding with precision. A discussion of data driven methods used to determine capital replacement needs based on current fiscal challenges facing healthcare institutions. "

George Hampton comes from an extensive background in clinical engineering that includes 30 years of service with Catholic Health Initiatives national clinical engineering program. George has experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment in a variety of markets from rural critical access hospitals to large metropolitan trauma centers. His particular area of expertise is medical imaging. In addition to his technical expertise George has leadership experience in all levels of clinical engineering. In 1997 he took the lead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton Ohio, a 400 bed urban trauma center with a crew of 8 technicians providing comprehensive equipment services. His duties included all regulatory requirements in addition to implementing a progressive cost containment program that produced significant savings, high quality services and industry leading benchmark performance. In 2002 George took responsibility for the Kentucky/Ohio regional of the CHI clinical engineering program, providing oversight to 9 medical centers. George served as a resource for education and program development to reduce clinical engineering costs across the national program which lead to cost to value scores of under 5% on a $200 million spend. George’s background and experience made him an ideal candidate to lead the CHI Clinical Engineering Consulting Program. In 2012 he was selected to be the primary consulting lead for the development of the Tech Knowledge Associates program. He aided the TKA leadership team in the development of a world class clinical engineering program with a unique business model, which provides clients with guaranteed savings and comprehensive insourced services. In addition to his work with TKA, George also provided consulting services to several healthcare systems and multiple medical centers assisting them in the implementation of change initiatives that lead to millions in savings. In 2016 George was given the opportunity to join the Innovation Institute as the President of Tech Knowledge Associates, where he leads the leadership team in growth and continual development initiatives. He maintains his exposure in his field by speaking regularly at national trade shows and writing for industry publications.

"Batteries 101"

Dan Rager is the General Manager of Interstate All Batteries of Omaha and Lincoln. Dan’s been with Interstate since they became a locally owned franchise 9 years ago, previously Dan was an Operations Manager for 14 years. Dan is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney earning bachelor degree’s in Economics and Management with an emphasis in Finance. Connor Mellick is the Commercial Sales Manager for Interstate All Batteries of Omaha and Lincoln. Connor started working for Interstate while he was enrolled at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He graduated UNL with a degree in Marketing and Management in 2019. He has been in his current position at Interstate managing the commercial side of the business for 3.5 years. 

 

Gary Hoffman

"Is the Medical Device Really Ready to Go Back to the Clinical Department?"

Gary is the Director of Sales for Pronk Technologies. He received a B.S. in Business Administration from Norwich University and an MBA from City University of Seattle. Gary has developed and managed the US independent sales organization for Pronk for past six years and directly manages the accounts in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska. Prior to joining Pronk he spent six years as the General Manager of an FAA regulated electronics manufacturing facility and twenty-five years with Fluke Corporation selling electronic test instrumentation and managing a variety of sales organizations including industrial, networking and biomedical test instrumentation.

Lori Spangler & Holly Kollman

Professional Skills to Elevate Your Career

Lori Spangler has been in the Training & Development field 20+ years. After graduating with an M.A. in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota, she has worked in a variety of industries, most recently dental healthcare. What she loves most about developing individuals is seeing them gain new skills, and especially gain confidence. Lori is also a certified coach, TOEFL certified and has taught public speaking skills as an adjunct professor. When not saving the world, she spends time quilting, reading, walking and enjoying life. Recently she published a travel memoir "Miles of Memories: One Woman's Journey to All Fifty States".

Mrs. Kollman has been in the HTM field for 15 years with four and half years of specialized training and experience in medical surgical, laser, ventilator, dialysis, and imaging equipment maintenance; two and a half years’ experience managing both union and non-union departments across multiple hospitals; and eight years of experience consulting and providing subject matter expertise for healthcare technology management clients from around the country. As an Agile Product Manager and an Organizational Transformation and Change Management Consultant working with Booz Allen Hamilton, she has focused on managing customer relationships, reengineering business processes, authoring documentation of development tasks/best practices/reports, recommending architecture and technical process improvements, capturing and managing requirements, assisting with proposal development, and most recently, serving as a Deputy Project Manager for Supply Chain data governance and standardization activities. In her spare time, she is finishing her last semester of classes before graduation with her bachelors this fall in individualized studies with a focus on Client Relationship Management and a minor in Technical Communications. She also serves on the Advisory panel for the Women in Leadership Certificate Program and on the North Central Biomed Association Board of Directors, owns a side photography business, manages rental property, aspires to be the best mom to her four children and four fur babies (and grandbabies), loves all types of crafting/creating, is passionate about saving the environment and contributing to a more equitable world for all, and most recently purchased a home to renovate as a future Bed and Breakfast in Northern Minnesota.

Keynote Speaker Phil Englert

"Medical Device Security"

Phil Englert is the VP of Medical Device Security for Health-ISAC, working with Medical Device Manufacturers (MDMs) to help improve privacy and security while coordinating with Health Delivery Organizations (HDOs) to ensure implementations are practical and achievable. Phil is a subject matter expert and contributor to Health-ISAC’s Medical Device Security Information Sharing Council (MDSISC). Phil is also active in the cyber security community and a contributor in regulatory and standards efforts including HSCC, MITA, CISA, AAMI, MDIC, & MITRE. He has over 30 years of technical and operational leadership experience in healthcare and life sciences. Previous positions include Chief Product Officer at Medsec, Global Leader for Medical Device Technology at Deloitte, Vice President of Operations at MDISS, and National Director of Technology Operations at Catholic Health Initiatives. Phil is an experienced executive leader in strategy and tactics development for $250m MedTech services organization supporting over 130 Acute Care facilities across 22 states with deep knowledge of clinical settings and extensive knowledge of medical technologies.

"First Call Troubleshooting for Radiographic and Fluoroscopic Imaging Systems"

Course Objectives o Discuss how to conduct an initial assessment of the systems condition o Discuss how to reduce the system to minimum configuration o Discuss eliminating set-up problems o Discuss subdividing the system into manageable pieces o Discuss trouble shooting techniques and localizing the failure o Discuss hardware/software issues • Description: o First call troubleshooting is as much an art form as it is a skill. In this presentation we will discuss the methods and thought processes associated with effective initial troubleshooting of medical imaging systems. Triaging system failures and determining where to focus your next steps quickly puts service providers in a position to allocate the right resources to correct the problem and return the system to service as soon as possible.

Kerry Nesmith joined RSTI as in an Instructor in January 2018. Prior to working at RSTI, he worked for in house programs as a BMET, Imaging Specialist and then a Lead Technician. He graduated the DOD Biomedical School in 2004. During the time in the military, he worked on field equipment that was used for air drop and logistic missions. After leaving the Army, he took a position at a hospital working as the OR Biomed which opened up the path to Imaging Service. Kerry was responsible for maintaining the C-arms and Mobile units in the OR. Kerry completed RSTI’S X-Ray Certificate series (Phases I-IV), along with several other multivendor and product-specific training courses. Kerry also attended OEM service training at OEC, GE, Shimadzu and Siemens. Kerry completed UDEMY’s “Train the Trainer Foundation: Adult Education Mastery Course” on December 12, 2022.

Jim Rickner

"Ultrasound Basics/PMs"

Director of Service and Training for AUS. He has over 35 years of experience working on variety of electronic equipment. His experience includes repairing and operating flight simulators, specialty aircraft avionics, destructive material testing instruments and a variety of ultrasound systems. He has worked in the ultrasound industry for 15 years as a Senior Field Service Engineer, Director of Training and Service Manager. Jim has attended courses on GE, Philips, Siemens, ATL, Toshiba and Samsung and has repaired a variety of others. He has earned degrees in Electronics, Scientific Analysis and Instructor of Technology. In addition to his degrees, he has attended courses that have allowed him to become a Certified Quality Management Facilitator and a Coach for the Dale Carnegie Course: Effective Communications & Human Relations/Skills for Success.

Ben Kuchar

"Surgical Microscope Care"

I have been with Prescott’s for 10 years. I served as field tech for the first 3 covering KS, NE, IA and MO. Year 4 was promoted to a Neuro tech role and relocated to CO. I covered the West region for a couple years there and was promoted to the West Regionsl manager. After a couple years there I was moved back to the Midwest as regional manager. Outside of fixing microscopes I enjoy spending time with family, golf and fishing.
